The 2015 Annual Festival marks another great year at Chess in the Library! On Saturday June 28th, 2015, we continued our traditions of fun and competitions at the North York Central Library. There were tons of things to do, including our giant chess set, guessing how many white and black queens in the box, and simul with our very own Treasurer for the upcoming year, Rebecca Zhang! (and she only ended up losing twice!)
We also had a few rounds of chess, for those in the grade 3 and under section, grade 6 and under section, and also the open section. Everyone played strategically, but in the end, only one player per section took home the gold.
Grade 3 and under section: Angela Lin
Grade 6 and under section: Tawsif Kamal
Open section: Benjamin Lin
Volunteer of the year is somebody who is dedicated to the program, passionate about the game of chess, and is somebody that we truly depend on in this program. This year’s volunteer of the year award goes to David Furlong!
One of the largest prizes that we have every year is the library of the year, the overall winner of the annual festival. When one branch displays extraordinary skill, passion, and dedication, they will win this title. Downsview library claimed this title two years in a row!
This year’s annual festival went amazing (as usual), and we could not have done it with the dedicated Executives of this organization of making it possible. Special thank you goes out to Mohit Verma, our Chess in the Library President for the past two years. Your dedication and hard work is what makes our program as amazing as it is. We wish you the best of luck in University! Also a huge thank you for all the volunteers who came out to help with the festival, without you it would not have been the same.
