About Us
Introduction
Chess in the Library is a student volunteer-run program.
As its name implies, the program is about playing chess in public libraries, where the environments are quiet and surrounded by books of knowledge. Members gather each week to play causal chess, blitz, and CFC rated games. Players of all ages and strengths are welcome to come and play, chess sets are provided.
The purpose of this program is to promote the magnificent game of chess across Canada. Chess is an excellent game that allows communication between all different kinds of people. Many people know the rules of chess but never had the opportunity to play a real game.
This program intends to encourage and enhance the opportunities available for these players.
Program Length
The CITL program usually runs for 1.5-2.5 hours/week, varying from location to location. Volunteers are present at least 15 minutes before the starting time to set up, and stay for an extra 15 minutes afterwards to clean up.
Program Organizers
At each CITL location, there is a minimum of 3 volunteers and a maximum of 5 volunteers. There is also at least one staff member from the public library acting as a liaison.
